Drunkard's Path

From Online Quilter, Quilt Heritage Collection
Finished quilt – 81½" X 67"

Drunkard's PathThis pattern emerged during the 1870s and remained popular well into the 1900s. Associated with the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), it was a very popular pattern for many fundraising quilts. With so many having been made during the 1870s-90s, collectors and historians tend to think of Drunkard’s Path quilts as rather commonplace. Made sometime during the 1870s-80s, this variation is anything but ordinary and the maker certainly had an eye for colour. The condition of this quilt is like new with the double pink still vibrant. Like most Drunkard’s Path quilts, the quilting is basic, but still very skilled. It is pieced entirely by hand, but could be machine pieced if preferred
